# Scheduled and repeating broadcasts

> Send a broadcast once at a date and time you pick, or on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule — and manage both from the Broadcasts page.

Scheduling is part of the broadcast itself. The last step of **New broadcast** asks **When should it go out?** and offers three answers:

| Choice       | What happens                                         |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Send now** | Starts going out as soon as you confirm |
| **Schedule** | Goes out once, at a date and time you pick |
| **Repeat** | Goes out daily, weekly or monthly, until you stop it |

Everything else in the wizard — template, audience, variables — is the same for all three. See [Broadcasts](/whatsapp/broadcasts) for those steps.

<Note>
  There is no separate "Campaigns" page. Scheduled broadcasts live in the **Scheduled** tab of **WhatsApp → Broadcasts**, and repeating ones in the **Repeating** tab. The old Campaigns address opens the Repeating tab.
</Note>

## Schedule once

Choose **Schedule**, then fill in:

| Field         | Notes                                                                                   |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Date**      | Today or later                                                                          |
| **Time**      | 24-hour or 12-hour, depending on your browser                                           |
| **Time zone** | Your browser's zone is listed first, followed by common zones, each with its GMT offset |

The time must be at least 2 minutes from now and no more than a year ahead. Below the fields, the page repeats the send time and how long until then.

### Who gets it

The audience is worked out **again when the broadcast goes out**, not only when you schedule it:

* People who match the audience by then are included — for example, contacts tagged after you scheduled.
* People who opt out in the meantime are skipped.
* The count on the review step is today's count, labelled **Would reach today**.

An audience that is already empty is refused when you schedule, so you find out while you are still on the page.

<Info>
  An **Upload CSV** audience is the exception. The list is saved when you schedule, and those exact numbers are sent at the scheduled time.
</Info>

### The Scheduled tab

**WhatsApp → Broadcasts → Scheduled** lists every broadcast waiting for its time, soonest first.

| Column       | What it shows                                                          |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Name**     | The broadcast                                                          |
| **Template** | The template it sends |
| **Audience** | Who it goes to, e.g. "Contacts with 2 tags" or "Uploaded list of 240" |
| **Sends** | The date and time in your browser's time zone, and how long until then |

The row menu offers:

* **Send now** — sends it immediately instead of at its time.
* **Duplicate** — opens the wizard with the same template, audience and values.
* **Cancel** — it will not be sent. It moves to **History** with the status **Cancelled**, and nothing reaches anyone.

A scheduled broadcast cannot be edited. To change one, cancel it and use **Duplicate**.

Opening a scheduled broadcast shows when it sends, the same **Send now** and **Cancel** buttons, and **Duplicate**. Its delivery report fills in once it starts sending.

### When the time comes

Watx checks for due broadcasts every minute, so a broadcast goes out within about a minute of its time. It then moves to **History** and follows the usual statuses: **Queued**, **Sending**, **Sent**.

## Repeat

Choose **Repeat**, then set the schedule:

| Field         | Options                                                                                |
| ------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Repeats** | **Every day**, **Every week** or **Every month** |
| **On** | Weekly only. One or more days, Monday to Sunday |
| **On day** | Monthly only. A day from 1 to 28, so every month has it |
| **At** | The time of day |
| **Time zone** | As for a one-off schedule                                                              |
| **Ends**      | **Never — until I stop it**, **After a number of sends** (1 to 1000), or **On a date** |

The page sums the schedule up in a sentence — for example "Every Monday and Thursday at 9:00 AM, 4 sends in total" — and lists the next three send times.

The time is local to the zone you pick. "9:00 AM New York" stays at 9:00 AM in New York when the clocks change.

<Warning>
  **Upload CSV** and **Re-target a broadcast** audiences cannot repeat. An uploaded list is not stored anywhere a later send could read it, and a re-target follows up one specific past broadcast. Schedule them once instead. To repeat to the people in a list, [import them as contacts](/contacts/overview#importing-a-csv) and choose them by tag or segment.
</Warning>

### What each send is

Every time a repeating broadcast runs, Watx creates a new broadcast in **History**:

* It is named after the repeating broadcast, followed by the date of the send.
* It has its own report, recipient list and follow-up buttons.
* It shows a repeat icon, and the line **Repeats · Weekly offers** under its name.
* The audience is worked out fresh each time, with opted-out contacts skipped.
* It counts against your plan's monthly broadcast and message limits like any other broadcast.

The first send is the first matching time at least a minute after you confirm.

If a send cannot go out, it appears in **History** as **Failed** with the reason, and the next send goes ahead as planned. A failed send is never retried later. **After a number of sends** counts every send, including failed ones.

If Watx is unavailable when a send is due, the send goes out once Watx is back — once, however many were missed. Nobody gets several weeks of messages at once.

### The Repeating tab

**WhatsApp → Broadcasts → Repeating** lists every repeating broadcast.

| Column        | What it shows                                                                |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Name** | The broadcast, its template and its audience |
| **Schedule** | The schedule in words, its time zone, and when it ends |
| **Next send** | The next send time in the broadcast's own time zone, and how long until then |
| **Sends** | How many sends so far, out of the total if it ends after a number of sends |
| **Status**    | See below                                                                    |

| Status                        | Meaning                                                                  |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Active**                    | Sending on schedule                                                      |
| **Paused** | No sends until you resume it |
| **Finished** | It reached its last send or its end date |
| **Stopped**                   | You stopped it                                                           |
| **Stopped — needs attention** | It could not continue — see [Troubleshooting](/troubleshooting/whatsapp) |

When a send fails, the row shows **Last send failed** with the reason until a later send succeeds.

The row menu offers:

* **View sends** — opens **History** filtered to this repeating broadcast. Remove the filter from the chip above the list.
* **Pause** — no sends until you resume.
* **Resume** — continues from the next matching time after now. Sends that fell while it was paused are not sent. If its end date has already passed, it becomes **Finished**.
* **Stop for good** — it will never send again. This cannot be undone.
* **Delete** — removes the repeating broadcast. Sends it already made stay in **History**.

A repeating broadcast cannot be edited. To change the template, audience or schedule, stop it, open one of its sends and use **Duplicate**, then choose **Repeat** again.

## What is checked when a send goes out

A scheduled broadcast and every repeating send are checked again at send time. If a check fails, nothing is sent to anyone, and the broadcast shows **Failed** with one of these reasons:

| Reason shown | What it means |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **The person who scheduled this is no longer allowed to send broadcasts in this workspace.** | They were removed, or their role was changed to Viewer. Someone with the Agent role or above has to create it again |
| **WhatsApp is not connected.** | Reconnect in [Channel settings](/whatsapp/settings) |
| **No contacts found for this audience.** | Nobody matches the audience any more |
| **Everyone in this audience has opted out of marketing** | Everyone who matches has opted out |
| A plan message | The month's broadcast or message allowance is used up, or the subscription has ended. See [Plans and billing](/getting-started/plans-and-billing) |

The plan is checked when you schedule as an early warning, and again when the broadcast goes out. Usage is only counted when it actually goes out.

## Who can do what

Members with the Agent role or above can schedule, repeat, send early, cancel, pause, resume, stop and delete. Viewers can see every tab but cannot change anything.

A scheduled or repeating broadcast sends on behalf of the member who set it up. If that member later loses the right to send, its sends fail with the reason above.
