# Sessions and analytics

> Where your website chats came from — the sessions list with its sources and landing pages, and the analytics overview for the channel.

Two reports sit under **Channels → Web → Analytics**: **Sessions**, which answers "which
page or campaign produced this conversation", and **Overview**, which is how the channel is
doing.

## Sessions

**Channels → Web → Sessions** covers the **Last 7 days**, **Last 30 days** or **Last 90
days**.

A session is written on the first widget load, and most loads never become a chat. The
funnel is therefore sessions → chats → identified, never "visitors", because counting every
load as a visitor would make the widget look far busier than it is.

| Figure | What it counts |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Sessions** | Widget loads |
| **Chats started** | Sessions that produced a conversation, with the share of sessions |
| **Identified** | Sessions where the visitor gave you contact details, with the share of sessions |

Two breakdowns sit under them:

* **Top sources** — where visitors came from, shown as the host rather than the full URL.
A visitor with no referrer is **Direct**.
* **Top landing pages** — the page the widget was opened on.

### Recent sessions

| Column | What it shows |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Started** | How long ago |
| **Visitor** | The contact, linked to their record — or **Anonymous** |
| **Landing page** | The page, linked so you can open it |
| **Source** | The referring site, or **Direct** |
| **Pages** | How many pages they viewed |
| **Chat** | **Open** links to the conversation in the Inbox. **No messages** means the widget loaded but nothing was said |

<Note>
Visitor IP addresses are not stored. The approximate country shown in analytics is derived
  without keeping the address itself.

## Analytics overview

**Channels → Web → Analytics → Overview** covers widget sessions, chat volume, where
visitors come from, and the leads they become. Choose **Last 7 days**, **Last 30 days**,
**Last 90 days** or a custom range; every headline figure is compared with the previous
period of the same length. **Refresh** re-reads it and **Export** downloads it as CSV.

### The headline figures

| Figure | What it counts |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Widget sessions** | Widget loads, with total page views |
| **Started a chat** | Sessions that became a conversation, as a share of sessions |
| **Messages received** | Incoming messages from visitors |
| **Messages sent** | Outgoing messages |
| **New conversations** | Threads opened in the period |
| **Avg first response** | How long a visitor waits for the first reply |
| **Replies by AI** | Split between AI and human replies |
| **Identified visitors** | Sessions that gave contact details, as a share of sessions |

### The panels

* **Sessions and chats** — daily widget sessions and how many became conversations.
* **Visitor funnel** — widget sessions → started a chat → left contact details.
* **Chat volume** — daily incoming and outgoing messages.
* **Busiest hours** — visitor messages by day and hour.
* **Top pages** — where the widget was opened.
* **Top referrers** — what sent them to the page.
* **Top countries** — approximate location.
* **Contacts and deals from the web widget** — new contacts, deals created and deals won,
with deals attributed through the conversation they came from.
* **Most active visitors** — by total messages exchanged.

## If the numbers are all zero

A channel that has never been seen loading reports nothing. Check
[Install the widget](/website/install): a domain must be allowed, the snippet must be on the
page, and the channel only goes live once Watx sees a real load from an allowed domain.
