# Posts and automation

> The posts grid: how much of your account answers comments on its own, automating one post or many, and moderating a post without leaving it.

**Channels → Instagram → Posts** is your published posts, arranged around one question:
which of them are working for you unattended. It is the usual place to start a
comment-to-DM automation, and the quickest place to work one post's comments.

Publishing to Instagram from Watx is not supported. Everything else about a post can be
done here.

## Getting your posts in

Instagram only notifies Watx about activity after you connect, so the grid starts empty.

* **Sync posts** fetches your published posts and refreshes likes, comment counts and
  captions.
* **Sync comments** pulls in comments made before each post was synced, across every post.
  It also reconciles deletions — see [Comments](/instagram/comments).

Both are in the page header. New activity arrives on its own afterwards; you only need to
sync again to backfill or to refresh counts.

## The master switch

The **Comment automations** card sits at the top of the page and is the kill switch for the
whole workspace. With it off, **nothing runs**, whatever an individual automation says. Its
subtitle tells you the standing at a glance — *Live · 3 automations answering comments*, or
*Off. Nothing runs, whatever an individual automation says.* It cannot be armed until
Instagram is connected.

Underneath it is **Catch-all for every post**: one automation that covers every post,
including ones you have not published yet. A post with its own automation uses that one
instead. Use **Set up** or **Edit** to open it in the editor.

## Coverage

Below the switch, **Answering comments on their own** shows how many of the loaded posts
have a live automation, as a count and a bar, with three figures beside it.

## Finding a post

## What a post tile says

Each tile carries the thumbnail, the post type (Reel, Story, Carousel, Video, Photo, Ad),
likes and comments, and — when there are any — a badge with the number of comments waiting
for a reply. A crossed-out speech bubble means commenting is turned off on that post.

The automation badge is the important one:

| **Paused**        | An automation covers it, but its own switch is off                        |
| **Switched off**  | Set up and armed, but comment automations are off for the whole workspace |
| **Not automated** | Comments here are not answered automatically                              |

The action button changes with it: **Automate** on a post with nothing, **Edit** on a post
with its own automation, and **Customise** on a post that is only covered by the catch-all.
Customise gives that post its own settings instead of editing the catch-all, so the rest of
your posts are untouched.

## Automating several posts at once

Tick posts in the grid — a bar appears at the bottom with the count — and press
**Automate**. You pick one of the ready-made templates, decide whether to arm them
immediately, and each selected post gets its **own** automation, so any of them can be
tuned afterwards.

<Warning>
  Posts that already have their own automation are **skipped, not overwritten**, and the
  dialog says how many before you press the button. There is no undo and no version history,
  so wording somebody has tuned cannot be recovered.

Leaving **Turn them on straight away** off saves them switched off, which is the safer
default: read the wording on one post, then arm them.

## Opening a post

Clicking a tile opens the post with its comment thread attached, so moderating does not
cost a page navigation. Two layouts are offered on a wide screen — a side panel that keeps
the grid visible, and a centre panel that splits into post-on-the-left, comments-on-the-right
— and your choice is remembered.

From here you can:

* Read the caption, step through a carousel, and open the post on **Instagram**.
* **Copy link** and **Copy caption**.
* **Refresh** — re-read likes, comment counts and the caption from Instagram.
* See the automation covering the post, and open the editor on it.
* Toggle **Allow comments**. This turns commenting on or off **on Instagram itself**.
* Switch between **Only waiting** and **Show all** comments, and **Sync** this post's
  comments.
* **Mark all handled** — clears them out of the waiting queue without touching Instagram,
  for comments you answered in the app or that need no answer.
* **Hide all** — hides every waiting comment. Hidden comments come off the post for
  everyone else but stay visible to whoever wrote them; Instagram never tells someone their
  comment was hidden, and you can unhide at any time.
* **Open in the comments queue**, scoped to this post.
