# Plans and billing

> Starter, Growth and Enterprise; the one 15-day trial per workspace; what counts against your limits; automatic renewal, failed payments, and cancelling.

Every workspace runs on one plan, paid for by one person: the owner. This page
covers what the plans are, how the trial works, what happens when a payment
fails, and how to stop.

<Note>
  This is what your workspace pays **Watx**. It is not the same thing as **Sales
  documents**, which is the invoicing you issue to *your* customers — see
  [Sales documents](/integrations/sales-documents).
</Note>

## The plans

There are three: **Starter**, **Growth** and **Enterprise**. There is no free
plan.

Prices and limits are read live from your Watx instance, so this page does not
quote amounts — open **Settings → Plan & billing** to see the current figures
for each plan side by side.

Every plan sets the same set of limits:

| Limit                | Counted as                                                                                    |
| -------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Contacts | How many exist right now |
| Messages per month | Sent this calendar month |
| Broadcasts per month | Sent this calendar month |
| Flows | How many are **active** right now |
| Team members | How many are in the workspace right now |
| AI agents | How many exist right now — **Starter 1, Growth 5, Enterprise unlimited** |
| Storage | Shown on the plan card, but **not currently enforced** — nothing is refused for being over it |

Limits are checked **before** an action, not after: a broadcast to more
recipients than you have messages left is refused before any of them is sent,
rather than halfway through. When a limit is reached, Watx says which one and
what you have used.

<Note>
  Paused AI agents still count towards the agent cap. A cap you can dodge by
  pausing is not a cap.
</Note>

**Enterprise is quoted, not listed.** Its card shows **Custom pricing** and a
**Talk to sales** button, which opens a short enquiry form (your name and work
email are required; phone and a message are optional). Sending it records the
enquiry and, if the workspace is not already on a working plan, provisions a
trial so you are not locked out waiting for a reply.

## The free trial

Choosing a plan in the welcome wizard starts a **15-day free trial**. No card is
asked for and no payment is taken.

<Warning>
  **One trial per workspace, ever.** Clicking between Starter, Growth and
  Enterprise carries the same clock forward — it does not grant a fresh 15 days.
  Once the trial is spent, the only way to keep the workspace running is to pay.
</Warning>

While the trial is running, the whole plan is available. In the last five days,
a strip above the dashboard header counts down. You can dismiss it, but it comes
back — a deadline banner that dismisses for ever is decoration.

If you need more time, the billing screen has an email and (where configured) a
WhatsApp button that opens a pre-filled message to support. Extensions are not
self-serve.

## Paying — automatic renewal

Checkout goes through **Razorpay**, and what you authorise is a **recurring
mandate**, not a one-off payment: you approve it once — by UPI AutoPay, card or
netbanking — and Razorpay charges you every cycle after that. Nobody is asked to
come back and pay by hand each month.

The checkout dialog says so before you authorise, and after it **Settings → Plan
& billing** carries an **Automatic renewal** card naming the next charge date.

<Note>
  Converting a trial does not bill you immediately. The first charge is deferred
  to the end of what you already hold, so you never pay twice for the same days.
</Note>

Only the **owner** can open checkout. `Plan & billing` is owner-only — stricter
than admin-only — because a workspace has one plan and one person paying for it,
and a payment made by anyone else would land on a record nothing reads. A
teammate who reaches the screen is shown who to ask, by name and email.

## When a payment fails

A declined renewal does not lock you out on the spot.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Grace — the workspace still works">
    The subscription moves to **past due**. Sending and creating carry on
    working. A banner appears saying the payment could not be taken and that
    access will stop if it is not sorted out.

    Razorpay retries on its own schedule during this period.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Lapsed — access stops">
    If it is still unpaid after the dunning period, the subscription expires.
    Sending and creating are paused and the workspace is sent to a billing
    screen.

    **Nothing is deleted.** Contacts, conversations and automations are exactly
    where you left them and come back the moment a plan is paid for.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  There is no "update your payment method" flow, and there cannot be — a
  Razorpay mandate's card cannot be swapped. Recovery is a **new mandate**:
  press **Restart subscription** on your plan and authorise again.
</Warning>

## The billing screen

A workspace whose trial is spent and which has paid nothing is sent to a
dedicated billing screen rather than back to the plan wizard. It offers only the
exits that exist:

* **Pay and continue** on the plan you were on, or **choose a different plan**;
* **ask support for more time**, by email or WhatsApp;
* **talk to sales**, if the plan is one that is quoted by hand.

There are no trial badges anywhere on it. A teammate who lands there gets a
read-only version naming the owner instead.

The workspace switcher is on that screen too, so an agency with one lapsed
client can move to a workspace that still works.

## Changing plan

Open **Settings → Plan & billing**. Every plan's card has a button, including
the one you are on:

| Your subscription | The button on your current plan |
| ------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| On trial | **Set up billing** — authorise the mandate; the first charge is when the trial ends |
| Active and renewing | **Current plan**, disabled — there is nothing to do |
| Active, renewal cancelled | **Resume subscription** |
| Past due, expired or cancelled | **Restart subscription** |

Picking a different tier takes you to the checkout page for it.

<Note>
  While you are on a paid plan, the welcome wizard will not change it — plan
  changes for a paying workspace go through checkout, so that what you are
  entitled to and what you are charged never disagree.
</Note>

## Cancelling

**Settings → Plan & billing → Automatic renewal → Cancel renewal.** Owner only.

Cancelling stops the **renewal**, not the plan: you keep everything you have
paid for until the end of the current cycle, and the card then says **Access
ends** with the date instead of **Renews**. After that date the workspace loses
access until a plan is chosen again — there is no free tier to fall back to.

The confirmation dialog names the date before you press the button. If you
change your mind before it arrives, **Resume subscription** on your plan sets a
new mandate up.

## Who sees what

|                                     | Owner | Admin | Agent | Viewer |
| ----------------------------------- | ----- | ----- | ----- | ------ |
| See **Plan & billing**              | Yes   | No    | No    | No     |
| Pay, change plan, cancel            | Yes   | No    | No    | No     |
| Be entitled by the workspace's plan | Yes   | Yes   | Yes   | Yes    |
| Be blocked when a limit is reached  | Yes   | Yes   | Yes   | Yes    |

See [Members and roles](/settings/members-and-roles) for everything else roles
decide.

<Note>
  **AI credits are a separate meter.** On platform credits, AI thinking is paid
  for out of a credit wallet topped up on its own; your plan's message limit is
  a different thing, and you can exhaust one without touching the other. See
  [Credits and your own key](/ai-agents/credits-and-byok).
